Architecture, Bridges, & Statues | Take a Closer Look at the Sights

about pytog

what’s this all about?

With a camera, battery pack, and comfortable shoes, I spend hours out in the cold looking for shots. Yes, popular landmarks, but curiosity also drives me to places and viewpoints less commonly shared. You can visit the sights through my blog. each post will have 7 or more shots. For the more adventurous, choose the sights as a starting point and do some exploring of your own.  Just drop me a line if you happen upon anything exciting or worth a visit on the contact page.

The first 9 posts will be covering 6 states. Check back if you don’t find your favorite US city since I’m always on the hunt. Never a one-trick pony, there are lots of different shots and topics for each city. You’ll start to see the pattern on the carousel, since there’s more to a city than the usual highlights.

On top of that, there will be photography topics and tips. Like minimizing distractions (crowds and obstructions) As well as things to do to rescue shots that were “almost great if it wasn’t for x,y,z.” Even what to look for when there’s nothing around.

Interesting shots are up to you.

What’s with the Name?

I didn’t want to take the usual route of So-and-So Photography; I wracked my brain for something memorable and simple. Joining the “tog” in photographer with my initials led to Pytog (pronounced pie-tog or pi-tog for the math lovers). Not sure pronunciation is needed but there you have it.

I realize I still took the usual route, just secretly.

What’s with the niche?

Architecture, bridges, statues…the pattern became evident after a few trips. I delight in these things for their purpose. Architecture is built to come together (once more) to do greater things. Bridges are built to reach new places and people, and statues are built so we don’t forget history and culture. scroll through the galleries.

where do i start?

There’s an introductory post, When a Mental Picture Just Won’t Do or hop into your favorite city on the blog homepage. I’ll have the 9 most recent posts on the main page and states will be listed as I build my archive.

Another page, Breaking the Rose-Colored Glasses, will reveal a finished (retouched) photo vs the original. This will be a weekly post because I’d like to confirm: no, planet Earth doesn’t have a perfect, finished glow or bright colors that pop at all times. There’s a new image every monday.

If you’re still here, hopefully you found something you like. The pictures, at least. Feel free to join my newsletter for additional images, tidbits, and upcoming news. I’ll be adding a shop for prints and posters for select images soon. You can also follow me on the usual suspects.
