breaking the rose colored glasses

This one is minor but color is intensified slightly, mostly on the subject. So what is this? It’s an anemone, this amphibian can eat small fish and shrimp by using one of its many tentacles and poisining. It’s calm when viewing in an aquarium, and doesn’t look like it’s doing anything. But very different, and I originally thought it was some type of plant. This was taken at Shedd Squarium in Chicago back in November 2021.

Another example of what little toning will do to the world. This is featured on post, Ice sculptures winterfest 2025. Taken February 2025 in lake geneva, WI.

The lighting exists in the original photo, it’s just tone down. The filter making the image brighter, enhances the contrast between the tree and the sky. But the important thing is the light was there originally. This is from the post, Nature is Just Outside Your Door. Taken mid April 2023.

So I kind of want to defend this one. Despite what you’re seeing in the original/untouched version, in person the ice was much bluer than the images and video i took. not as blue as the retouched, but there was a definitely strong blue tone that i saw in person but couldn’t capture. this happened to me last year as well, and i even mention in a video clip how weird it was that the blue wasn’t coming through in video. this image will be in an upcoming post this week on lake geneva, Wisconsin’s Ice Sculptures 2025. so stay tuned. taken february 2025.

Using the hail mary once again and going black and white for this picture. i joke that the higher contrast, the more the picture needing saving. I shot this because I liked the building, especially the clock on top, which is seen on older buildings. this picture was taken louisville, kentucky in September 2022.

Okay, this kind of hurts to share. This is a close-up of a lamp with a sculpture of a bison head taken at monument circle in indianapolis. a filter with red and oranges tones intensifying the sunrise. taken september 2023.

This is a busy street by times square in new york city. it has a simple black and white filter with high contrast. Featured on the post, when you take a “bad” camera to New York. taken in october 2022.

Starting off with a minor difference, this simply has a slightly darker finish. This is the canal St. Bridge, originally Pennsylvania Railroad Bridge, in chicago, IL. Featured on post, when a mental picture just won’t do. taken March 2023.

this filter added a warm yellow and pinkish hue. this is the gateway Arch in st. louis, MO and was taken May of 2023.

a reddish tone was added here to emphasize the sunlight hitting the monument. This is the soldiers & Sailors Monument in Indianapolis, IN and was taken in September 2023.
